He/ She shall be responsible for overall field implementation, coordination and monitoring of the FAO project activities.

Job Duties:


Organizational Setting:

Human Appeal is implementing community outreach activities following structured learning process based on the Farmer Field School (FFS) approach to encourage collective problem solving, demand-led and locally appropriate responses that blend traditional and improved scientifically proven adaptation options.


Reporting Line:

The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the Projects Manager WFP &FAO at district Shaheed Benazirabad, Sindh. The direct supervisor or as assigned, will be responsible for all day-to-day supervision, technical guidance and the performance evaluation.

Technical Focus:

The Livestock and FFS expert will provide relevant technical assistance for efficient implementation of the Livestock Team to develop animal health, feed, fodder crop and AIl data collection network and help in analyzing the data to prepare recommendations for farmers.


Tasks and Responsibilities:


• Assist the Projects Manager-WFP and FAO grants to develop animal health, feed, fodder crop and AI data collection network and help in analyzing the data to prepare recommendations for farmers;
• Directly supervise and guide dairy stakeholders and private sector for dairy development activities related to animal feeding, dairy husbandry, breeding and genetic improvement, and overall management of dairy farms.
• Design and develop training modules tailored to Livestock Farmer Field Schools LFFS on local livestock farming practices, including animal health, nutrition, breeding, and waste management.
• Prepare extension material and other technical themes as needed to LFFS.
• Conduct regular assessments of livestock practices and LFFS in the field to identify challenges and opportunities for improvement.
• Coordinate with local IP, agricultural organizations, extension workers, and community leaders to promote the LFFS initiative and encourage participation.
• Provide training and supervision for field staff in extension work, especially on animal feeding, fodder crops, rearing of calves and heifers, animal health, cattle housing and genetic potential base of dairy cows.
• Synthesize lessons learned and best practices gained during the program implementation in collaboration with the program team and feed those into the discussions with other stakeholders.
• Report on the progress of work/program and signal in advance problems that may hamper such progress.
• Ensure the implementation of the Project activities according to the work plan.

Qualification and Experience:

  • University degree in DVM, livestock and animal husbandry
  • Mandatory knowledge and understanding of FFS  programming;
  • At least 3-4 year experience working on livestock management projects preferably 1 year with UN agencies like WFP and FAO.
  • Previous experience of working in SBA district on FFS approach, livestock management is preferred.
  • Experience in the provision of administrative and logistical support and organization of workshops
  • Experience in research, analysis, and report writing;
  • Experience in working with government officials and non-governmental organizations;
  • Demonstrated experience in working in complex working environments;
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office software packages (MS Word, Excel, Access etc.) and experience in handling web-based applications

Skills and Abilities:

  • Good understanding of community participation and the integration of DRR in recovery projects.
  • Knowledge of PSEA, Protection & GBV, Gender & Inclusiveness in recovery context.  
  • Knowledge of low cost structural mitigation activities.
  • Ability to communicate in local languages.
  • Diplomacy, tact and administrative skills in order to work with people at managerial and occasionally, senior government levels.
